Autism/ADHD
The therapeutic benefits of being in contact with horses has long been recognised in the USA and more recent research in the UK has shown that the benefits of nature are invaluable to those on the autistic spectrum. The sense of accomplishment when the horse responds the way you wanted it to can help a person with ADHD to focus.
Imagine a world where the rules don’t make sense and you seem to feel everything differently to those around you. This painfully confusing situation can make you feel frustrated and overwhelmed. Horses live in our domesticated world that isn’t natural to them either, they can understand these feelings and help the young person not feel so alone and misunderstood. The rhythm of the horse can calm the spirit of the child.
Lucy’s son has autism so she has first-hand knowledge that parenting an autistic child can be challenging and hard work.
